Numerical Libraries
Numerical libraries belong to the toolbox of every computer scientist with interest in computational science and engineering.
While an in-depth understanding of the underlying algorithms often requires a substantial amount of expertise in numerical
analysis the libraries are ready to use for practitioners from various backgrounds. This seminar will be
on routines of the NAG C Library.
Except some basic knowledge in programming and computer science there are no special prerequisites for this proseminar.
Especially there is no need of prior experience in the mathematical problems involved. The main focus of the seminar is on exploring a variety of numerical library routines from a user's perspective.
This means the main task of the participants is in explaining the others how to use the library to solve a given special problem (e.g. solving a
linear system.) The mathematical part of the seminar is about some basic understanding of the algorithms the library uses.
